Obstetrics, Midwifery & Childbirth
At Berkshire Health Systems, we offer comprehensive and personalized care for pregnancy and childbirth. From your first prenatal visit through childbirth and the postpartum period, our team of obstetricians, midwives, nurses, and staff assure you receive quality care in line with your personal goals and health needs.
Your Birth Experience
Berkshire Health Systems offers two Family Birthplace locations: one at Berkshire Medical Center and one at Fairview Hospital. Each offers a serene environment with private rooms, subdued lighting, infant warmers, and monitoring equipment. Furthermore, we provide specialized operating rooms for Cesarean births. Our delivery services, including anesthesia, are accessible around the clock.
Our nursing and professional staff collaborate closely with the obstetricians and midwives to accommodate your birthing preferences and needs. Experienced obstetrical nurses and lactation consultants will provide individualized care and guidance to both you and your baby.
At Berkshire Health Systems, we understand the myriad emotions tied to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. With the privilege of helping expectant families, we will guide you through this transformative journey. Acknowledging the multitude of questions and concerns that arise, our dedicated team at Berkshire Medical Center is prepared to offer comprehensive support at every step. Whether you enter pregnancy with pre-existing health concerns, or develop a problem in pregnancy, we will create a plan of care to improve your health and wellbeing. We also partner with Baystate Medical Center’s Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians for specialized high-risk care so that you can continue to receive your care close to home at Berkshire Medical Center.

At Berkshire Health Systems, we offer a variety of tests throughout pregnancy to better understand you and your developing fetus. Blood and urine tests check for or watch for possible health conditions. Ultrasounds assess fetal growth and wellbeing.
A number of early genetic screening tests are available including Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), which screens for chromosomal abnormalities in the first trimester of pregnancy.
Your obstetrician or midwife will discuss what tests you need, when, and answers any questions that might arise. You can expect to have prenatal tests during each of your three trimesters of pregnancy.
