Berkshire Health Systems is pleased to welcome Brett Matthews, DO to our surgery team in North Adams. Dr. Matthews received his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010 and completed his residency training in general surgery at Berkshire Medical Center in 2014. In 2016, he completed a second residency in surgery at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. He completed a fellowship in upper GI endoscopy, advanced laparoscopy/minimally invasive surgery, and bariatric surgery at the University of Massachusetts and is certified by the American Board of Surgery.

He has been practicing general and minimally invasive surgery for the past eight years and has spent the last three years at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA. His clinical interests include:
- Laparoscopic and open hernia repair (simple and complex)
- Laparoscopic foregut surgery (hiatal hernia/anti-reflux procedures, achalasia)
- Minimally invasive surgery on the small bowel, colon, adrenal gland, and spleen
- Upper and lower endoscopy
- Enteral and vascular access (gastric and jejunal feeding tubes), mediports
- Office excision (abscess, skin, and subcutaneous lesions)
